Othello starts out as the man every other man wants to be.  He is the general of the army and everybody high up in society loves him.  They love him because he is strong and can stay calm, even in the worst situations.

All of this surprising for people in this time period because he is a black man.  He is called the Moor because of that.  Othello falls in love with Desdemona, the daughter of someone who doesn't want her daughter marrying the Moor, but they get married anyway.

Othello and Desdemona are in love.  Attached to each other because of their hearts.

These two love birds trust each other with everything that they are.  Unfortunately, all men have a green-eyed monster that just needs a little bait to eat the whole country.  Iago, the rat, has that bait to make Othello think that Desdemona is cheating on him with his own lieutenant.

Now, Othello loses his cool and is overrun with thoughts like jealousy, anger, and murder.  Iago plants his own proof to frame Othello's lieutenant, which is all that Othello needs to believe that Desdemona and Cassio, Othello's lieutenant, are not worthy enough to live any longer.

The green-eyed monster is released.

Othello murders Desdemona.  After that he finds out that Iago has been lying to him so then he kills himself.

Othello let jealousy and anger control him, which ended in his death.

Cassio Blog

Young, but Hated by Many
Michael Cassio is the new lieutenant of Othello's army.  He is young and good-looking, and is perfect for the job.  Cassio is inexperienced, but Othello likes him so he hires him as his second-hand man.  Iago, being the rat that he is, does not like this new promotion of Cassio's.  So Iago decides to do something about it.

Cassio is also liked by Desdemona, but not because she is in love with him, or anything like that, but because she JUST LIKES him.  Although she JUST LIKES him, doesn't mean that Cassio just likes her.  Cassio says about Desdemona, "You men of Cyprus, let her have your knees,
Hail to thee lady! And the grace of heaven,
Before, behind thee, and on every hand,
Enwheel thee round"(
Shakespeare Act 2).

Iago turns that relationship against Cassio, Desdemona, and Othello.

Cassio messes up and loses his place as lieutenant because of a drunken brawl, but even though he lost his position, Iago still tells Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are more than friends.  Image result for winky face emoji
Othello tells Iago to kill Cassio, but he fails, and then Othello kills Desdemona.  Cassio then tells Othello that Iago was to be blamed for everything.  After Othello dies, Cassio gets to go back to take his military position.

Desdemona Blog

Quiet, but Loud

Many see Desdemona as a lost young girl who only made one big decision in her life, which was not the smartest choice to make in that time period.  Many saw her as a mouse.

What people did not see was her strength.  She had great courage to make the decision to marry Othello without her father's permission.  People did not see her as the lioness she is.

Desdemona had the courage to stand up to her father when he found out about the relationship she had with the Moor.  She said, "My noble father/ I do perceive here a divided duty" (Shakespeare Act 1).  Here Desdemona is explaining that she will always be daddy's little girl, but she loves the Moor enough to defy her father.  She is standing up for what she believes in.

Another way that Desdemona shows her boldness is when she faces Othello when he is calling her a devil.  Desdemona says, "I have not deserved this" (Shakespeare Act 4).  Right now, Othello strikes Desdemona and she does not stand for it.  She tries to reason with her husband, which is something that not many women would do if their husbands believe they did something wrong.

Desdemona is her own woman.  She stands up for herself and does what she believes is right.  Desdemona has the courage that not many people do.
